Seems unorganized, slack, not care about school, outgoing, confident, Alcoholic, unmotivated, over the top, Uses lots of gestures, charismatic, disheveled, insightful into Johns character personality and needs, ambiguous (vague), not clear on his intentions, talkative, sarcastic, easy going, casual, understanding, prodigal.

90% of the film we hear Charles before we see him – Symptom of Schizophrenia people who have this condition people and have schizophrenic delusions often hear them before they see them. – Hear Charles a cough before we see him.

Then a POV long shot from John perspective introduces him into the scene, we always see Charles form Johns POV!!!!!!!- Shows that Charles is seen from Johns’ eyes.

  • Watching the outside world and creating mathematical calculations that depict the outside world on the window.
  • John is playing pool by himself, Hanson turns up and says “Whos winning? You or You?”
  • Jonh approaches a girl but his lack of social skills leaves him embarrassed he looks to Charles for support.

  • Long shot showing a nearly empty library, John is sitting on the window seat. Slight light shining onto John (revelation) “You know Hanson has just published another paper?” says John, he is having a personal conflict
  • once again we hear Charles before we see him shown through a POV medium shot.
  • “And this is a woman who is chasing a man who stole her purse”-John this quote is disturbing as he derived an equation for this act but did not even try to stop the physical act. Shows he is a losing sense of reality and the world and morality.
  • Charles introduces another delusional character, his niece John has created another one connected to Charles to provide more comfort to him to deal with his stress
  • Two shot of both men ” when did you last eat” – Charles  showing his placement as a friend who cares
